We're resting...

We were up EARLY for the morning walk.

There were lots of people out walking
just at daybreak, and cyclists.
We got in our hour walk....
Then home, so SHE could have coffee.
We were ready when the first of the little bipeds
started walking by.

It was the first day of school!
We have a bus stop across the street,
five schools--primary and secondary--, plus
two preschools and a long day care centre
within a half mile radius of our house.
So we were busy!
Barking at everyone and telling them to have a great
year.....and stay away from our yard.

Then this afternoon, we sat in our air-conditioned
house and watched them stagger back home
in their wrinkled, slightly soiled, room-to-grow
uniforms and leather oxfords
in the 39°C/102+°F heat.
We barked in comfort!
And let them know it was hotter elsewhere....

It should only get down to 26°C/78+°F tonight.
So we'll be up early, and ready to bark when the kids come.

Supposed to be 40°C tomorrow, and 41°C on Wednesday.
Then cooler for a few days.

Oh, the best part is the kids usually take packed
lunches to school, which they eat ON the way,
dropping bits that we find early in the morning.
We love the school year.

Ladies and Gentlemen....

Our next item, Lot 87 is a Job Lot.

Lot 87

In fairness, we must disclose that this lot comprises of:

3 animals who raced up to harass a horse and rider.
Luckily, the rider and horse were very understanding.
Said horse even stood still when one put his nose to its BACK hoof for a sniff.

2 animals who ran away, ignoring the human,
to chase  sheep
then looked amazed that someone had erected a
fence in that short time, so they couldn't get out
of the paddock.

1 animal who will not come out of the river if there is ANY human
around who may throw rocks.

2 animals who drag  dirt and vegetation in their fur, inside.

1 anonymous animal who digs holes.

1 who chases vehicles.

There are a few more indiscretions, but these were only last week's.

Now, who will start the bidding?

Endangered Animals

Okay, we may be late.  But better late than never, huh?
We want to support our friend Louis' Endangered Animals Post.
First, for Kismet, we will show you the Orange-bellied Parrot.  It's facing extinction...sigh....such a sweet little birdie, huh.

And the Eastern quoll.
(our friend Charlie already told you about the
northern hairy-nosed wombat.)

Look at this little creature ,
(cover your ears, Madi)
also called the native cat,

isn't it sweet?
Well, it is pretty much extinct
(can something be pretty much extinct?
It's a bit like  a terrible tragedy......)

Anyway, it only lives in Tasmania now.  The mainland quolls
are endangered....critically endangered.

Don't you think they deserve to live WITH us?
Even if they are just good for those troublesome tiles in Scrabble?
As are quokka, below, who are not endangered.

We do!

(Note:  Please EXCUSE, this post was written under the influence
of Semillon Cabernet Blanc.)

Toy renewal...

One of my Christmas presents from my ♥♥♥Ernie♥♥♥
is this squeaky, crinkly dog.
I love carrying it around, keeping it away from Dui,
squeaking it in his face.
But it stopped squeaking.
SHE had a look and discovered there was a
bottle inside it, with a cap that squeaked.
Off to the shop where she bought a
replacement bottle!
Switch of the bottle cap, insert the new bottle
in the velcroed bit.
We know it's a bit rude.
 And we're good to go!

PLUS, we have five more replacement bottles!
(Hope the squeaker cap lasts that long.)

Crazy Weather...

We were out early this morning.
Out before the sun came out.

A beautiful sunrise means there are clouds about.

This is Roxy being a crazy dog after being
allowed off the lead.  She rolled in something disgusting,
and had to walk sedately with HER for a while.
She raced madly around  annoying scotties.
When we got home, this happened.
A downpour of very LOUD rain...
thunder and wind.
After about an hour, the rain
stopped and everything dried out.
 The wind picked up and...
More rain and WIND.  All day long.
Just crazy
(We liked the cooler temperature, though.)

Friday the Thirteenth...

We went to the river early,
Where we met a new friend, Coco.
She joined in our wild games.
That girl can really RUN!
It was starting to heat up, so we had a few dunks in the river.

Then home for the usual quick rinse.
We dried off under the ceiling fans, before the mercury hit 42°C/107.6°F.

It was a good day for sleeping in the
air conditioned house.
(Actually, we've been very lucky so far.  This was our hottest day.  The very hot weather has been to the north and west of us.
Today should be a more reasonable 33°C/91°F.)

Dui's Selfie

Our little friend Bowie who lives in Singapore on top of the world,  said how nice it was to see Dui's face.

SHE thought so, too, after all these shots.

If you're wondering why SHE took so many bad pictures,
each shot was prefaced with:

"Dui....Dui....here Dui....good boy...snap...
#!*##!!@!!"
Until finally the money shot was obtained!

Excitement...

Every morning while  waiting for HER to get ready for a walk,
I am so excited I  just have to bite something.

I grab the nearest stuffie, bite it, shake it and squeak it!

My ♥♥♥Ernie♥♥♥ always gives me stuffies to bite.
I have about 87 of them.
Thanks Ernie!
